On March 28, business leaders came together for Sainte-Justine’s very first Grand Ball and its official after-party, L’Après for Juju. Thanks to their commitment towards maternal and child health, over $2 million dollars was raised for the cause. Let’s look back at this landmark moment for the future of Quebec families.
What if we could re-experience the wonderment of childhood? That was the theme of Sainte-Justine’s Grand Ball, a major philanthropic event bringing together committed donors around the common goal of growing beyond for maternal and child health, today and into the future.
This year’s Grand Ball was chaired by Laurent Ferreira, President and Chief Executive Officer of National Bank of Canada and Co-chair of the Grow Beyond campaign. Mistress of Ceremonies Karine Vanasse served as host throughout the evening with help from a group of lively, free-spirited children. Their presence was a welcome reminder that a healthy childhood is full of magical, playful moments. The always flamboyant Barbada also joined the party, reading a touching tale inspired by the history of Sainte-Justine.
“Tonight, we celebrate hope. The hope of living life to the fullest. Of dreaming. Of growing up. And this is precisely what Sainte-Justine offers the children, mothers-to-be, and families of Quebec: a promise for the future supported by exceptional teams who, day after day, push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
During the evening, President and Chief Executive Officer Delphine Brodeur stressed the importance of supporting local institutions, emphasizing the central role of philanthropy in building a stronger, more innovative, and sustainable health care system. “In these times of great upheaval, philanthropy represents a collective response to challenges. Supporting the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation means investing in our expertise, innovation, and training of top talent to build a healthier future.”
Laurent Ferreira also addressed the audience. For this business leader, the event was an invitation to take concrete action to advance precision pediatric health care. “Investing in CHU Sainte-Justine means guaranteeing that Quebec children have access to the best medical advances achieved through expertise developed here at home. It demonstrates the real power of action and a responsibility we all share.”
Growing beyond the impossible to see Madeleine grow up
In an emotional moment, the audience welcomed Olivier and Camille, parents to Madeleine and ambassadors for Sainte-Justine’s Grand Ball. The couple lovingly recounted their daughter’s journey after receiving a diagnosis of triple congenital heart disease long before she was born.
Their heartfelt testimonies soon had the audience on the edge of their seats.
“Today, March 28, Madeleine woke up babbling in her bassinet. She laughed all day, and had a few fussy moments. All in all, it was a very normal day. But that’s what made it exceptional. These days, it’s these little moments of normalcy that keep us going.”

Philanthropy: Bringing hope and meaning in uncertain times
The first edition of Sainte-Justine’s Grand Ball was a gesture of hope in these uncertain economic times. As crisis follows crisis, Sainte-Justine will continue to welcome families in need. Every day, families from across Quebec rely on Sainte-Justine’s donors.
Together, participants in this major event have helped provide our care teams with the autonomy to care for Quebec families, right here at home. The business community has confidently chosen to honour its duty to protect our flagship university hospital centre.
“Thank you to each and every guest who attended Sainte-Justine’s Grand Ball. You’ve made this first edition a resounding success. You’ve joined us in growing beyond the status quo, and for that I’m infinitely grateful.”
L’Après for Juju: A new generation mobilized for the cause

To keep the festivities going and welcome a new generation of philanthropists, L’Après for Juju, the official after-party of Sainte-Justine’s Grand Ball, followed the banquet. It was an opportunity for a new generation of young business people to demonstrate their commitment to Sainte-Justine families. Musical entertainment by DJ Donald Lauture, dancing, and colourful decorations immersed guests in a celebratory atmosphere. What’s more, FouKi kicked off the party with an exclusive performance that got everyone moving.

We can only grow beyond together
This first edition owes its success to the remarkable organization and dedication of its devoted committees. The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation would like to extend its warmest thanks to National Bank of Canada, the honorary chair of the event, and to its prestige ambassadors: Intact, Pomerleau, Rio Tinto, EY, and Kyndryl. We would also like to recognize the commitment of our grand ambassadors, Sagard, CGI, Levio, PwC, and Sun Life, whose support has proven crucial.
Children rarely do things in a small way. They create worlds filled with larger-than-life characters and flowers that reach the sky. Teens dream big and act boldly. For one evening, we honoured the healthy childhood they have a right to expect. Thank you for taking part and supporting Quebec families.
