They may all have their own stories about how Sainte-Justine has affected their lives, but what they share is a commitment to making a difference in the future of this treasured Quebec institution. These 20 families have joined forces for this very special initiative.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation to postpone its annual Ball for two years in a row. The prestigious event would’ve turned 20 this year. To offset the impacts of the crisis, the Foundation has asked 20 families to be a part of “A Special 20th ‘Unanniversary’ Fundraiser in Lieu of the Sainte-Justine Ball: 20 Amazing Families, 1 Amazing Fundraiser.”
31 days to raise $400,000
In the space of one month, between March 1 and 31, 2021, these 20 families have pledged to raise $20,000 each as part of this remarkable initiative in support of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation. Together, their outstanding philanthropic efforts will bring in more than $400,000.
All 20 families are determined to do everything they can to make this campaign a resounding success. They will be drawing on their past experience and convictions to show that change is possible when everyone comes together to do their part for a worthy cause.
Together, for the children in their lives
Each of the families has a special relationship with Sainte-Justine. In some cases, this is because their child has benefited from the hospital’s care. In others, this deep sense of commitment emerges from the core belief that having a pediatric centre of this calibre is a priority for our society. The word “health” is a deeply meaningful one for all of them. They know being healthy is a tremendous privilege. And they know that being able to access one of the highest standards of health care in the world, right here at Sainte-Justine, can make all the difference.
The children in each of their lives are what has inspired them to contribute to this initiative. Their resilience, their courage and their determination are the reasons they have embraced this challenge.
I am delighted to join this fundraising initiative, on behalf of all my young patients and their families. I want to be able to promise them they are being cared for in one of the best pediatric hospitals in the world. Every day, I see the incredible impact donors have on the services provided to children. On their quality of life and, sometimes, their very survival. And on research projects that deliver game-changing solutions.
It’s so rewarding to be giving back like this. People sometimes underestimate how good it feels to get involved. There’s a real sense of pride and accomplishment. We want to lead by example as members of the business community, but also as parents. We hope to impress upon our three children the importance of philanthropy early in life. They are proud and pleased to be doing their part for Sainte-Justine.

A number of long-time partners of the Sainte-Justine Ball — namely National Bank, Ivanhoé Cambridge, McGill Real Estate and Engel & Völkers — have enthusiastically stepped up to be part of this new adventure, even though the event itself has had to be cancelled this year. In addition to supporting the “Unanniversary,” McGill Real Estate and Engel & Völkers have made this fundraiser even more personal, thanks to the generosity of Patrice Groleau and Debby Doktorczyk, respectively the owner and the president of both firms, who are one of the 20 participating families.
If you don’t have your health, you have nothing. And without children, our society has no future. Sainte-Justine brings all that together. So partnering with them just felt like the right thing to do.
